Connectivity for the Chau Chak Wing Museum, University of Sydney

Delivering a world-class network for a world-class collection

The University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest university, founded in 1850 and consistently ranked among the world’s top 50 institutions. Its campus continues to expand with innovative facilities, including the impressive Chau Chak Wing Museum, a state-of-the-art space bringing together the Nicholson, Macleay and University Art collections for the very first time.

Home to more than 443,000 collection items, the museum showcases one of the largest assemblages of antiquities in the Southern Hemisphere. The site also holds deep cultural importance for the Aboriginal Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, having served as a significant gathering place for thousands of years.

A complex project requiring precision and reliability

Creating a museum of this scale meant delivering a connectivity solution that was just as refined as the building itself. With multiple collections, climate control requirements, exhibition technologies and back-of-house operations all relying on secure, high-performance data, the project demanded a meticulous and dependable approach.

QVR Communications was engaged to design and install a customised network infrastructure that would meet the University’s strict standards and integrate seamlessly with existing systems across campus.

QVR implemented a high-performance solution built around:

  • 1,500 Class EA links using R&M’s Easy-Lock Cat 6A EL shielded system
Chosen for fast termination, clean installation and consistent testing outcomes
  • Custom R&M patch panels
Ensuring aesthetic consistency and full compatibility with other University installations
  • Strict adherence to the University’s vendor management and compliance requirements
Guaranteeing performance, longevity and simplified future maintenance

The result was a fully integrated, future-ready network that supports everything from exhibition technologies to museum operations — delivered on time, on specification and with zero compromise on quality.
